How are we expected to behave? - My Twenty-fourth Entry

I’m not an exceptionally religious person; I like to think of myself as having a religion, but seeking to be spiritual. Spirituality seemed like such a non-threatening word! It’s a word that won’t offend anyone. Right? That was until I went to look for a synonym in my trusty computer thesaurus for an alternative pithy word. You should read the optional words. Some are downright scary....saintly, holy, and divine.

I did find a few words that more exemplify who I think I am, well actually only one word...devout, and that might be a tad of an exaggeration. :)

When I started writing this blog today, I wasn’t thinking at all about what I wrote in the last 2 paragraphs. I wanted to consider the prophet Micah. In the bible, he tells us that God only asks three things(don’t expect them to be easy). He asks us to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly. Even if a person has no religion, the importance of these concepts cannot be ignored.

What do these concepts mean?
How do could they affect your relationships?

To do justly involves being fair, reasonable, truthful and impartial. How would you rate yourself on these characteristics?

To love mercy includes being kind, benevolent, and forgiving. Do you believe that you act in this way even when the other person isn’t the same age, race, religion or ethnic group?

To walk humbly relates to being respectful, modest, and gentle. How does being arrogant and self centered negatively affect your life and your relationships?

If we can use these three concepts to manage our lives on a daily basis, consider how much better they might be...how would your relationships change for the better?

Today’s Truth: Life is a process not an Event. Try to use what Micah relates and see what your results might be.

This is my favorite entry to date. I like the simplicity of what Micah has said. Your question prompts are really good journaling prompts for justice, mercy or forgiveness, humbleness or humility. We may never achieve these in fullness, but the aspiration creates our life journey... a process and not a life event, as you have said. Thanks for today's entry :)
