Managing time is a difficult process for many of us. The old adage, ‘so many things to do with so little time’ makes a lot of sense.
The things that move us to try to manage our time include wanting to be more effective, improving others opinion of us, and in work – getting a promotion. At the same time these issues that drive us to change may be factors in our resistance to change.
If we try to change for someone else, we might as well stop now. There are very few times where you can change for someone else and sustain the change. Other resistance factors include the fear of being different, the uncertainty that change might bring, procrastination, the belief that you don’t have the time to learn new strategies and our built in unwillingness to be different.
Imagine if you became proactive in your life and felt more empowered. This idea seems only remotely plausible to those who are great time managers. Most of us look forward to letting go of certain chores or responsibilities. No you don’t get to quit work or give your kids to your mother until they turn 18 :))))).
With these options excluded, consider the steps to be a great time manager.
1. Plan your time in advance. The few moments it will take can save hours
2. Delegate your responsibilities
3. Prioritize your activities. If you group them by importance you will be able to select wisely
4. Avoid exhaustion
5. Develop a process
6. By flexible
7. Accept imperfection
8. Include plans to enjoy your spare time
9. Follow through
What are the steps are you willing to take to be a better time manager?
Now consider how you use your time. You have 168 hours per week. How do you use them?
· Work/school (include transportation)
· Sleep
· Recreation/Fun
· Time with family/friends
· Household Responsibilities
· Other activities
Today’s Truth: Time is our only truly non- renewable resource. Use it wisely. Being a more effective person means using your time more efficiently
