For those of us who remember the Beach Boys’ song, “Wouldn’t it be nice”, we’re getting old! Er....I mean wise. :)
Let’s consider this theme and how we may have some influence over much of how ‘nicer’ our lives can be.
How would you finish that sentence?
Wouldn’t it be nice, if? __________________________________________________
Some of our responses might be expansive, like “Wouldn’t it be nice” if we could have World Peace. Some of our answers might be fantasy, like “Wouldn’t it be nice” if I win the lottery. Other answers might be less extravagant, but still out of our control like, “Wouldn’t it be nice if (the sports team I love) wins the championship.”
Consider examples of “Wouldn’t it be nice” in your life, they can help you set goals.
For me it would be, “Wouldn’t it be nice if I could blog 4 times this week”
For someone I spoke to today it was, “Wouldn’t it be nice...if I could better manage my stress.”
Another person said, “Wouldn’t it be nice...if I could have a loving conversation with my daughter.”
This is about an opportunity to set goals, not by saying I will try hard (which is a strategy for failure) or trying to give you one more opportunity to say you should do something.
The ‘try hard’ and the shoulds beat us up. There are plenty of people who will stand in line to do that for you so don’t do it to yourself! I am suggesting you establish attainable goals that you want to do. Change what would make your life happier, easier, and simpler.
Today’s Truth: Your creativity and energy is limited by the boundaries you put on your thinking. Let yourself image what you want life to be like, then ask Wouldn’t it be nice... I make it happen.
